Music Monday

Hey ya’ll! Happy Music Monday. I decided to start doing a blog entry every Monday with a list of songs that I like. I figured since I spend all Monday tweeting music links anyway, thanks to Twitter’s #musicmonday trending topic, I might as well devote a weekly blog entry to it as well. I posted links to all the songs too. Leave comments guys.

Talib Kweli

Talib Kweli

Chaos

– Talib Kweli and Bahamadia: This track is from the 1999 project SoundBombing 2 and its nuts. The song is another great hip hop anthem. Talib Kweli:“We your rhyme sayers/ we lead you like a beacon
of light out of the chaos/cuttin down overzealous players who stare /we’re the winners of the game…” Talib Kweli and Bahamadia both have crazy flow and delivery on this track, while explaining the difficulty true emcees face in the hip hop game as far as the U.S. market is concerned. Bahamadia: “ My only option’s doin bootlegs for the Japanese/Get about eight G’s,/ a heavy buzz overseas/Sacrifice a pill to mainstream and do what I believe…”. This song captures the mind set of a true emcee.

Amerie

Can’t Let Go

 – Amerie: It may sound mushy, but this is a TRUE love song.  I remember hearing it for the first time in D.C. (Amerie’s hometown) during a summer program at Howard U…I was 16. Of course I didn’t know what love was then (don’t know now either, but I got an idea lol) , but I knew I loved the song. The track itself is so clean with an old school R&B feel to it (the bass is stupid dope, pay attention to that), and Amerie shows her vocal skills as well with her backup and ad libs. I love this one! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mDUAhjGfTA

Popular Demand

Black Milk

Black Milk

– Black Milk: The intro track Popular Demand is so amazing to me. I love how the beat drops in, then the sample picks up and then Black Milk comes in swinging, “So I say what up to the world/still rockin’ in advance/Black Milk, people’s choice, most popular demand..”. This track was a splinded way to open up an album this dope.

A Tribe Called Quest

A Tribe Called Quest

Oh My God

– A Tribe Called Quest:  Classic! I miss the days of Tribe Called Quest collaborting  with Busta. Phife Dawg’s hilarious metaphor’s and Q-tips smooth delivery make this song one of my favorite Tribe tracks. Q tip: “Listen up everybody the bottom line/I’m a black intellect, but unrefined /with precision like a bullet, target bound/just livin like a hooker, the harlett sound snow when I say the harlett, you know I mean the hott/heat of the equator, the brothers in the spot Jalick, Jalick ya wind up ya hit draftin’ of the poets, I’m the #7 pick/lick, lick, lick boy on your backside/lick, lick, lick boy on your backside/ listen to the fader..”. The Best.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETVwuOv69R0
